Spaceport America : the yellowish road and the degraded sky by azure which makes dream about space
Before I left for Houston, where I just arrived this Saturday, March 16 after 900 miles over two days (I stopped halfway in Ozona, Texas), I wanted narrate my adventures at the Spaceport. « What ? You are goieng by car from Las Cruses to Houston? Oh, you are plucky ! », the Leif Carlsson’s wife said, a Swedish TV journalist came with her husband (Carlsson & Carlsson) report in the Spaceport. Oh yes, the plane makes dream in the sky, but the car is better on land. It’s more strong but there are more things to discover. I told you, instead of going back where I came to a detour of 111 miles via Truth or Consequence (either through Rome to go to Paris as it looks), I decided to take the shortcut that takes me directly Spaceport in Las Cruses via Hatch, 60 miles. It’s fully half (see map). Worth it, no ?
But what I did not know is that sort of truck-track (CoRdA013) was completely gravelly.

Ooh, but I believed in the Dakar Rally when I saw in the mirror the beautiful trails behind my Ford Taurus with tires 92 inches wide. I was doing 40 miles/h and I had fun as a kid in the snow.  I took the opportunity to stop a few times to admire that yellow decor with an azur blue sky. A pale blue sky, looking ever upwards becomes darker, so dark it makes me start thinking about space.
Now I understand why there is a Spaceport here.
That being said, on my way, I met a truck and a couple 4x4 forward like a snail. I was clever, except that after a few time, I saw the light trough gasoline ! Ahhhhh, it will end up my way ? Yes, just. Phew ! I prefer to say you that the next time, I will prepare myself better.
The moral of the story : if you want to borrow the sandy road south to get to the Spaceport, plan to drink. That’s whatI did. I had some water but not enough fuel.
