Lost in space? No, the two rovers Curiositiy landed on August 6, 2012 on the red planet and Opportunity (January 25, 2004), aren’t alone. These three interplanetary spacecraft orbiting aourd them, namely :
Mars Odyssey (launched in 2001), Mars Express (launched in 2003) of the European Space Agency (ESA) and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO, launched in 2005 ). One to 400 km, which confirmed the existence of water , the other ESA 300/10'000 km to look on-and-in Mars surface (its lander Beagle 2 appears to have crashed) and third (MRO) at 250 km above the poles, which has mapped Mars. There remained more than Maven to know what happens  in that atmosphere. Three-Four billion years ago, the Martian atmosphere was dense enough to allow the existence of liquid water on its surface. But following abrupt climate change, the red planet has lost almost all of its atmosphere. MAVEN will be able to learn more about this topic  and thus to trace the climate history of Mars. It can still be used for our good old planet ... later. Yeah ! Not in three or four billion years ... But by dozens of years ... Our atmosphere it will suffer the fate of Mars? And when ?
MAVEN, like « expert » or « Vertuose » in French, that exactly « Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN ».Volatile as the Earth ?
