Manhattan. - Photo : New York Post
[ New York, July 19th, 2012, © (rke), english below ] – Brrrr…

101 degrees F. ? Normal for us
Brrrr ... Finally a cool breeze. « With 80,6 F., we breathe this time », sighs one of the many porters of our hotel Wellington where we are standing : two-room apartment on the 7th floor ... euh sky! It should be noted that New Yorkers have suffered Wednesday, 18 July with 101 degrees F., not seen for a long time.
« 80,6 degrees ? It’s not so hot for us », says Rosalie Collot. Obviously, wecame from Miami with 81 degrees F. And moreover, we have sudded the new-yorker hot (but not fun) temperature, then the storm, as seen in this image of New York Post newspaper. We went right into strom it with the plane (well, almost) and I had to reassure my two Miss (Laura and Rosalie) that everything was normal. Normal? This is not a European president who said it ? But I don’t remember who is he, because we quickly forget the French here in Manhattan.

Photo : rke

WTC : the two new Twin Towers already stun the tourists
La deuxième Tour avance aussi. Photo : rke
That extirpates us until make us shivers, so September 11, 2001attacks leave tracks in the memories.
It's at least what we felt when arriving at the scene of Groud Zero and to the construction of two new towers of the World Trade Center. A dense world, intrigued and stunned along the new both buildings in full erection, to capture shots. Showing that we are under the two new towers. One has already two-thirds of its height, the other half of first. The tower number 1 will be 1,176 feet for 108 floors high and will be ready the next year already, hopefully. It will be even higher and certainly more beautiful than her twin destroyed. Its truncated side should give the sense of difference, from memory. The small shop of memorial preview 9/11 is constantly pegged by tourists who crowd in the wicket to see what it remains of memories of the disaster: medals, bracelets, badges(swipe cards), caps, cards, movies, deal whose Americans don’t would cross. Coming out of there, a strange feeling we invaded. We are still all the thrills. And when we go on the black wall to the memory victims, on the other side of the new buildings, the surveillance is The supervision is constantly present. Cops and watchtowers spy on us, distrust but allow to pass us. And when you go on the wall to the black wall in memory of the other side of the new buildings, surveillance is constantly present. From there, far away, far far away, the Statue of Liberty has almost the sourback, but it did not make attacked. The stomach still knotted, throat a little tight and thirsty, we go back north of Manhattan, we buck up ideas.

Photo : rke
[ New York, July 18th 2012, © (rke), english below ] – « Vous cherchez un taxi ?

The heavy yellow gold advantage of New York taxis
« Are you looking for a taxi ? Come with me, I’m a taxi-am », politely offers a somebody fifty-year man to the receipt of our luggage. Oh, yes, why not ? We hurry to the car door to find that the famous taxi-man does not ... a yellow taxi. It's weird. And I ask:
- Do you Have your taxi license?
- Yes, I do
- But it’s only your driver's license, not a taxi licence ?
- Of course, I do not need
- No, we refuse to board in your 4x4 vehicle (also newer). You are not a taxi.
The yellow taxis are are more and more new. Photo : rke
- But I propose $ 58 from the airport to the hotel. You will not find better elsewhere.
As a result, we decide otherwise and we will kindly to the famous New York official taxis. Travel cost-Newark Airport Manhattan 7th Avenue, $ 58 + $ 17 + tip toll. Total = $ 95 for three, my daughter, her friend and me.
Flowers in the
 7th Avenue. Photo : rke
But what fun we had to pay ! You know why ? Because we came across a Haitian driver, not because it comes from Haiti and it operates in New York for 27 years, but because we warned of this type of scam tourists spying on the conversations of passers of luggage for itself as a taxi driver.
So we arrived safely in a warm and a surprising rain to 871 7th Avenue at the Wellington Hotel. And since we have lost the habit of drops, we ate at the first Greek chic restaurant next door where we dined on chicken-potato lemony as I had never tasted as good since my last trip in Greece.
Who said the food was bad in the U.S.

Les lumières rêvées non artificielles de Miami by night

Le pont proche du parc Bayfront.  Photo : rke

New-York !

The no artificial lights dreamed in Miami by night
La place commerciale de la Bayside.

Miami by night is like Paris by night without it being artificial. The lightings base themselves in the heat, highlight high rises, calm boats and the tourists. We wandered by chance is this Tuesday (the routine, my godson Jerome Hirth says always) in Bayside, the most relaxing place in the city park with its "Bayfront", famous for film shooting CSI Miami and also, less known one, the « Challenger 7 Memorial » to honor the seven astronauts killed in the Challenger shuttle January 28, 1986.
Rosalie Collot fell in love at the corner point of being able to live there. My daughter Laura is left to go - a little tired - to imagine owning a yacht. Too bad we should leave early tomorrow Wednesday, July 18th to see an another city-light… by night... New York !

Small rockets will become bigger.

Nouvel espoir spatial ?

Undoubtedly, NASA is flying low. On the launch pad 39A formerly occupied by the space shuttle, but partially dismantled, about 130 participants from 31 countries flew their small rockets. The competition is part of a nine-week Space Studies Program hosted by Florida Institute of Technology of International Space Univesity (ISU) and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The annual rocket launch competition, which has been held in soccer stadiums and European cities, was at the site where Apollo 11 launched in July 1969 on a mission to put the first man to the moon. Thus 43 years ago. A new hope space ?

Having a walk by horse at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean : step by step, but not at a gallop !
Horses in Florida? Yeah, there are few, but there are. Certainly, it’s not the familiars « Franches-Montages » Switzerland race, but the horses of the American aera. Enough to walk around. The Kelly Seahorse Ranch (North of Jacksonville) www.kellyranchinc.net, more precisely at « Amelia Island State Park » at the top of Florida offers trips along the Atlantic Ocean. « It's great to ride in the U.S. with people of all levels and all countries », Rosalie Collot Jura jump champion in 2011 said. She and Laura Keller (my daughter) have been fortunate to along the coast like a Lucky-Luke style. But no question of going at a gallop ! « Too risky because of the tourists on the beach », the guide told us. The boss, Jim kelly, the very real cowboy fun after all, still the soul of a true merchant. Cost of the trip an hour: 80 dollars, although subsequently cancells the prior order on site. Orders are made only by phone, so no e-mails ! Banning on taking pictures of the square-sand or on the beach. « It's the law », as it was said to us ! Ah, ah, that's a good excuse. We understand that $ 90 image, the case is rather juicy-money for the organizers. I did not know what American Equestrian world there was as rigorous as NASA. In fact, if I were an American, I would have to do action shots ? $ 80 just to watch the departure of my two riders from the dock of the ranch, it’s a bit expensive paid, not really ?

Wednesday, after visiting Seaworld (Orlando West), $ 85 (entrance), $ 75 (Internet) and valid for two days, my two girls-fan Laura Keller and Collot Rosalie and myself have been a look at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Kennedy Space Center (KSC). A natural reserve of 140,000 hectares. Through the space center, this area has been preserved developers. Around, rockets and birds coexist. Besides, alligators have a little trouble these days. The rockets are scarce. Around, rockets and birds coexist.
Moreover, alligators have a little the boredom these time. Rockets become infrequent.

Firefighters and paramedics from NASA protest against their pay cut
Undoubtedly. It’s go wrong in NASA. The Transport Workers Union, which represents 90 fire-rescue workers at Kennedy Space Center, has launched an informational picket at the center’s south gate on State Road 3. The picketers want to bring attention to a proposed doubling of insurance premiums and a 20-percent cut in salary and retirement benefits for the firefighters, paramedics and inspectors at KSC. The wages were protected for the first year of the contract, but the government contractor for whom they work has proposed the cuts in a contract that begins in December. That company, G4S Government Solutions, which was formerly known as Wackenhut, began negotiations in March and insisted it could not make a profit without severe wage reductions and insurance premium increases.
“It’s unfair for them to claim, after underbidding their competitors, that they now need to make these cuts in order to make a profit,” said on Florida Today, Kevin Smith, president of Transport Workers Union Local 525, which represents the workers. Susan Pitcher, executive assistant at G4S Government Solutions, said the company could not comment while negotiations are in progress.

Paris to Sydney in three hours. It tempts you ?
- Photo : Rocket Crafters

Rocket Crafters' arrival propels Titusville to fly six times as fast that by plane ! Just a little in the space …

Great news for the local and regional economy of central Florida. That was the reaction from lawmakers, economic development officials and the founders of a Utah-based company called Rocket Crafters Inc., announced plans to move its fledgling high-tech aerospace operation to Titusville.
11 juillet 2012.
A soon-to-be-manufacturer of suborbital space planes and developer of innovative propulsion systems, Rocket Crafters laid out an ambitious program to create hundreds of jobs for the area over the next several years while dramatically advancing the concept of point-to-point transportation.
Rocket Crafters’ plan is to build aircraft that would take off like traditional jets, fly into sub-orbit and then land like a jet thousands of miles away, completing a journey that would take about one-sixth the time it would take a traditional airliner.
The company selected Titusville over sites in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Texas mainly because of its space resources — including experienced aerospace workers and knowledgeable officials — and an incentive package that included the city of Titusville providing the company a temporary, 23,000-square-foot hangar, testing facility and headquarters on the edge of Space Coast Regional Airport. The state and county also agreed to several performance-based incentives.
In two years, Rocket Crafters hopes to complete a 400,000-square-foot facility on 33 acres of airport land that it would fill with equipment. Total cost: More than $70 million.
