I was going to talk about the new Orion capsule (also ready as soon to be received in Cape Canaveral), so I was surprised, rolling, seeing a strange convoy. This is the External Tank (ET), the famous tank of Space Shuttle which was exhibited at the KSC Visitor Center. I stopped at the roadside, like other drivers for that matter, to shoot something in my Canon EOS 1D Mark 4. It's amazing what these spacecraft eye-catching ! ET (not the ET, the alien) had to spend two headlights.
It’s of course an actual replica of External Tank Enterprise, which never fly into space. That big stuff is installed for about twenty years at KSC. As a remember, that piece is so : length, 153.8 ft and diameter, 27.6 ft. Its weight (no load) does « only » 58’500 lb and… 535’000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and oxygen. Normally, the Orbiter (Space Shuttle Enterprise) should be moved to the Visitor Center in Houston. But his big tank ? I'll find out ...
