Revue de presse américaine après la cérémonie nationale pour Neil Armstrong

Comme à l’accoutumée, après un grand événement, voici une petite revue de presse de la région de Washington. Si le Washington Post parle de la cérémonie en hommage à Neil Armstrong d'hier jeudi 13 septembre l’USA Today, qui par ailleurs fête ses trente ans ce vendredi 14 septembre, évoque aussi de la cérémonie en page 7A et titre « Un dernier adieu ». Mais c’est surtout la « Une » de l’USA Today qui a retenu mon attention avec une photo du robot Mars Curiosity : « Serons-nous les premiers martiens », se demande le quotidien en étudiant la possibilité, sur une pleine page, d’un débarquent humain sur la planète rouge. En tous cas, le sujet spatial revient en avant dans la presse et titille la curiosité des lecteurs. Richard Branson affirme en page 9F : « Des millions de gens peuvent devenir astronautes », en référence, évidemment à son projet VirginGalactic, dont les premiers vols suborbitaux (saut de puce dans l’espace) sont sans cesse repoussés. On en est à décembre 2013, voir début 2014, pour le premier touriste.

As usual, after a big event, here is a little press review of the Washington neighborhood. If the Washington Post talks about the ceremony in tribute to Neil Armstrong yesterday Thursday, September 13, USA Today, which also celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this Friday, September 14. Also the newspaper refers to the ceremony and title page 7A « A final send-off » . But it’s above the "One" of the USA Today caught my attention with a picture of the Mars rover Curiosity: « Will web e the first Martians ? » asks USA Today studying the possibility on a full page a human landing on the red planet and the life ont the red planet. In all cases, the subject comes before space in the press and tickle the curiosity of readers. Richard Branson says on page 9F: « Millions of people may become astronauts », referring, of course, to his Virgin Galactic project, the first suborbital flights (hop in space). Note that these first flights for tourists are constantly updated. And are provided on December 2013, may be the beginning of 2014.

[ Washington D.C., September 13th 2012, © (rke), english below ] – Après des obsèques familiales le 31 août dernier, la NASA a organisé une Commémoration nationale ce jeudi 13 septembre dans la Cathédrale de Washington et en l’honneur de Neil Armstrong. Et ce, sans la présence du président américain Barack Obama, mais avec celle du directeur de la NASA.

Pour son tout dernier voyage terrestre, Armstrong a foulé son petit pas devenu grand dans l’imposante cathédrale nationale de Washington. Ah! Comment ne pas lâcher une larme en voyant John Glenn premier américain sur orbite il y a cinquante ans déjà, la main sur la poitrine qui, à 92 ans, dans cette cathédrale nationale honore son collègue astronaute Neil Armstrong, décédé dix ans avant lui. Buzz Aldrin, le compagnon de mission d’Armstrong et deuxième homme sur la Lune en 1969 était aussi affecté dans ce haut lieu de prière, la sixième plus grande cathédrale au monde en forme de croix avec une nef de 161 mètres de long. Une cérémonie très solennelle, sobre et parfaitement rôdée qui a nous a laissé filer quelques frissons…

After a family funeral on August 31 in Cicinati, NASA held a National Commemoration on this Thursday 13 September in the Washington Cathedral in honor of Neil Armstrong. And without the presence of U.S. President Barack Obama, but with the director of NASA.

For his latest earthly journey, the last small step of Neil Armstrong became a big leap in the imposing Washington National Cathedral. Ah! How don’t drop a tear seeing John Glenn first American to orbit already fifty years ago, the hand on the chest, and 92 years in the National Cathedral honors his fellow astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died ten years before him. [ Washington D.C., September 12th 2012, © (rke), english below ] – Me revoilà aux USA. Après être rentré jeudi 6 septembre de Floride, je retourne ce mardi 11 septembre au pays de l’oncle Sam, à Washigton D.C. pour assister au Mémorial de Neil Armstrong. Après sélection, j’y ai reçu en effet mon accréditation officielle comme journaliste. Les préparatifs vont bon train dans la Cathédrale Nationale de Washington sise à vingt minutes à pied de mon hôtel Holiday Inn (merci à Kuoni Bienne pour la réservation) au croisement des Avenues Wisconsin et Massachusetts. Les chaines TV sont déjà à pied d’oeuvre à l’intérieur et l’extérieur de cette somptueuse bâtisse, la sixième plus grande cathédrale au monde. J’aurai l’occasion de vous en reparler plus en détail.

Cela dit, ce mercredi après-midi, les touristes peuvent encore visiter les lieux par groupe ou en individuel et l’entrée est gratuite. Encore pas de barrières autour de l’église qui est accessible les long des deux avenues et quatre rues. Pour demain jeudi, il n’y a pas de place de parking prévue. Bonne chance à ceux qui y viennent en voiture. Pour ma part, pas de soucis puisque j’y suis tout proche ! Le veinard…

Hi, I'm back in the USA. After my last trip in Florida Thursday (August 22th to September 6th), I returned on Tuesday 11 September at the land of Uncle Sam, precisely in Washigton D.C. to attend the Memorial Service of Neil Armstrong. After selection, I received my official accreditation effect as a journalist. Preparations are well underway in the Washington National Cathedral located twenty minutes walk from my hotel Holiday Inn (thanks for booking by Kuoni Biel) at the intersection of Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues. The TV channels are already hard at work inside and outside of this magnificent building, the sixth largest cathedral in the world. I have the opportunity to get back to you in more detail.

So, this Wednesday afternoon, tourists can still visit the site by individual or group and admission is free. Still no barriers around the church which is accessible along the four streets and two avenues. For tomorrow Thursday, there is no parking provided. Good luck to those who come by car. For me, don’t worry because I my hotel is near the Cathedral. Lucky trip…

Hommage à Neil Armstrong : « Aucun rêve n’est impossible »

[ Cape Canaveral, September 4th 2012, © (rke), english below ] –  Mais où est donc passée la maquette du rover Curiosity exposée en novembre au KSC ? Pas moyen de savoir. « En tous cas, elle ne reviendra pas », nous précise une réceptionniste. Du coup, la place semble bien vide (voir photos). J’en profite ce mardi pour rendre un dernier hommage à Neil Armstrong. Un modeste reposoir avec des fleurs est installé à l’intérieur du bâtiment de la fusée Saturn (photo), rappelant la cérémonie en hommage à son enterrement du vendredi 31 août. Rappelons que la Journée nationale de son décès est prévue le 13 septembre prochain à la cathédrale nationale de Washington et non le 12 septembre comme cela avait été annoncé auparavent. Au KSC, le film retraçant l’alunissage visionné dans la salle de conférence n’a pas été changé, sauf qu’à la fin du spectacle (avec la maquette du module lunaire LEM qui descend et remonte), Neil déclare sur la vidéo : « Aucun rêve n’est impossible »…

Tribute to Neil Armstrong : « No dream is impossible »

But where is the the Curiosity rover moedl exposed to KSC in November ? No way of knowing. « In any case, it will not come back », said me a receptionist. Suddenly, the place seems empty (see photos). I take this opportunity on Tuesday to give a last tribute to Neil Armstrong. A small altar of repose with flowers is installed inside the building of the Saturn rocket (photo), recalling the ceremony honoring his funeral on Friday August 31st. Remember that the National Day of his death is scheduled for September 13in Washington National Cathedral. The film traces the landing viewed in the conference room in KSC was not changed, except at the end of the show (with the model of the Lunar Module LEM coming down and back), Neil says on the video : « no dream is impossible »...
