STS 135: the end of the crawler
The launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS 135) is still confirmed for July 8 and the Kennedy Space Center is preparing for its greatest hour of glory. On the launch pad that we visited, the last crawler (this platform with a giant caterpillars as towed rocket) is outdoors in a remote corner waiting to take him on his back the next rocket. Why? Since there will be no shuttle ... May be future heavy launchers that NASA plans to launch on behalf of private companies or other X-Space ? That is the question ! But this tractor may well be permanently shelved. In any case, there lived and aged well. Proof of this is rust that develops and dirt encrusted. It is hoped that NASA will restore its former glory, at least for the museum.
